Testimonials from Graduates: Gita McGilloway
Gita McGilloway
lives in San Francisco and is a Program Associate with the United Way
of the Bay Area. She is also attending the University of San Francisco
(USF) in the Masters of Nonprofit Administration (MNA) program. Gita
graduated from Pepperdine University in December, 2001, with a major
in International Studies. She attended Education for Life schools from
pre-school through eighth grades.
Question:
What do you think were the advantages of going to Living Wisdom School?
Gita: I
learned the life skills and tools to succeed in both higher education
and in life. The meditation and centering practices taught me to
focus and be calm; the relationships with adults helped me to
transition into the working world with ease; and the values stick with
me in all of my decisions.
Question:
Was high school difficult after our schools?
Gita: No,
it was very easy. I knew all I needed to know about how to get my work
done and communicate with my teachers and fellow classmates. Most of
us ended up in the honors classes in high school.
Question:
Did you notice any difference between yourself and other kids you met
in high school or college that you attribute to our school?
Gita: Yes! Many of
the kids couldn't relate well to adults and lacked a sense of self.
Each of my friends from Living Wisdom School shares two major
things in common: a strong sense of self and an interest in giving
back to the world.
