Education for Life Teacher Training Curriculum

Education for Life teacher training has three strands.

  • Personal Development and Wholeness
  • Education for Life Teaching Philosophy & Methods
  • Practical Experience.

Training begins with Level 1 course work followed by the Level 2 internship leading to certification.

Level 1: Course Work

  • Strand One: Personal Development and Wholeness
    27 hours class time, 3 hours service

  • Strand Two: Education for Life Teaching Philosophy & Methods
    63 hours class time, 7 hours service

  • Strand Three: Practical Experience
    12 hours observation in an Education for Life School, plus
    5 hours teaching in approved setting (at an Education for Life school or possibly where the participant is already teaching)

Level 2: Internship

Level 2 consists of an internship in a Living Wisdom School, under a Master Education for Life Teacher (a teacher with a minimum of three years experience).

Pre-requisite: Satisfactory completion of Level 1.

Internship: 4 days a week for 6 weeks. or 5 days a week for 5 weeks (145 hours). Included in the 145 hours is a weekly meeting with the school director reviewing theory, practice, and experiences.

Certification

Satisfactory completion of Level 1 qualifies student for certificate of Education for Life coursework completion. Satisfactory completion of Levels 1 and 2 qualifies the student for certification as an Education for Life apprentice. (An apprentice is qualified to be an aide, teaching assistant, or a first-year teacher under supervision of a Master EFL teacher. One school year as an apprentice, working at least half-time, is required for full certification as an Education for Life teacher.)
