Requirements for Education for Life Licensed Schools

  • The school must be a non-profit institution.

  • The school mission statement must be approved by the Education for Life Foundation Board of Directors.

  • The Board, administrator, and teachers are committed to implementing the Education for Life philosophy as described in the book and outlined in the principles, to the best of their abilities.

  • The school shall maintain an ongoing relationship to the Living Wisdom Schools and staff through participation at least once yearly in two or more of the following:

  1. Attendance at Education for Life conference

  2. Teacher visits to a Living Wisdom School for observation, consultation, and/or collaboration

  3. Teacher and or parent participation in Family Camp at the Ananda Institute for Alternative Living

  4. Advanced Education for Life Teacher Training/In-service and/or Parent Classes taught on site by an Education for Life consultant

  • Teachers must be approved by the Education for Life certifying committee. Certification is made on an individual basis and varies greatly, depending on teaching ability, past training, and experience.  

  • Satisfactory completion of the Education for Life Teacher Training year-long course at the Ananda Institute of Alternative Living is required of most candidates. (http://www.anandauniversity.org/curriculum/education.html)

  • In some cases teachers may be certified by the completion of  

  1. Education for Life coursework consisting of the two-week summer program at the Ananda Institute of Alternative Living and the five-day program at the Portland Living Wisdom School (http://www.livingwisdomportland.org/teacher-training.htm)

  2. Internship at one of the Living Wisdom Schools (length from 2 weeks to one semester, depending on the teacher's prior training and experience).

  • The school shall pay the Education for Life Foundation a nominal yearly fee of $500 or $50 per student, if more than 10 students are enrolled.
